What it does

Markdown Preview is a live Markdown editor. Type on the left and see the rendered result on the right as you write: headings, lists, links, images, tables, code blocks and quotes. It is handy for drafting a README, release notes, a blog post or documentation before you commit it, and for checking how a tricky table or nested list will look.

Switch the view to HTML to see the generated markup, then copy it or download a complete HTML page with basic styling.

How to use

  1. Type or paste Markdown into the input, drop a .md file on it, or click Sample.
  2. The preview updates as you type. The line above it shows the word, heading and link counts.
  3. Choose Preview to see the rendered page, or HTML to see the markup.
  4. Use Copy HTML to paste the result into a CMS or an email, or Download HTML for a standalone file.

Markdown cheat sheet

You typeYou get
# TitleA level-1 heading (## for level 2, up to ######)
**bold** and _italic_bold and italic
[text](https://example.com)A link
![alt](image.png)An image

Tables use pipes and a separator row: | a | b | followed by | --- | --- |. Tables are a GitHub Flavored Markdown extension, not part of CommonMark, so they only render while GitHub Flavored Markdown is on; with it off they show as plain text with pipes.

Example

## Highlights

- [x] Tables and task lists
- ~~Old API~~ removed

renders as a second-level heading followed by a checked task item and a struck-through line.

FAQ

› Which Markdown syntax is supported?

CommonMark plus GitHub Flavored Markdown: tables, task lists, strikethrough, fenced code blocks and automatic links. Turn GFM off to see how a strict CommonMark renderer would display your text.

› Is it safe to paste Markdown that contains HTML?

Yes. Markdown allows raw HTML, so the preview is shown in a sandboxed frame where scripts cannot run. The HTML you copy is not sanitized, so clean it before publishing untrusted content on your own site.

› Why does a single line break not start a new line?

In standard Markdown, a single newline is treated as a space, and a blank line starts a new paragraph. Turn on "Line breaks become <br>" to render every newline as a line break, as GitHub does in comments.

› Is my text saved?

Your last input is kept in this browser's local storage so it survives a reload. It is never uploaded; you can clear it with the Clear button.
