What it does
The Lorem Ipsum generator creates placeholder text for mockups, wireframes, templates and test data. Choose how much you need, in paragraphs, sentences or an exact number of words, and copy or download the result. The text uses the familiar pseudo-Latin vocabulary of the classic passage, so it looks like ordinary prose with natural word lengths and punctuation.
For other writing systems there are filler modes in Chinese (中文假文), Japanese, Korean, Russian, Arabic, Hindi and Thai. Latin text does not show how those pages will really look. Chinese, Japanese and Thai have no spaces between words, Arabic runs right to left, Devanagari letters hang from a headline and need extra line height, and Cyrillic words tend to be longer than Latin ones. Each mode fills the same role in its own script and punctuation, so line breaks, direction and density match the final design.
How to use
- Pick Lorem ipsum or one of the language modes (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Arabic, Hindi or Thai).
- Choose whether to generate paragraphs, sentences or words (characters in Chinese and Japanese), then pick how many.
- Keep Start with Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet on if you want the well-known first sentence, or turn it off for fully random text.
- Turn on the p tags option to get HTML, then copy or download the result. Press Generate for a new variation.
Example
Two paragraphs with HTML output look like this:
<p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Nisi aliquip velit esse cillum fugiat.</p>
<p>Pretium tincidunt lacus nunc pulvinar sapien, vitae faucibus fermentum integer quam viverra.</p>
Tips for using placeholder text
- Match the real amount of copy. A product card with a 200-word filler description will hide layout problems that a realistic 30-word one would reveal.
- Use the words option for fields with limits, such as titles, meta descriptions or button labels.
- Replace filler before launch. Search your project for “lorem” as part of a release checklist, since placeholder text left on a live page looks unfinished and hurts SEO.
- For right-to-left or other scripts, test with real sample text in that language as well, because line breaking and punctuation rules differ.
Everything is generated in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, so the tool also works offline once the page has loaded.
FAQ
› What does Lorem Ipsum mean?
It is scrambled Latin taken from De finibus bonorum et malorum, a book by Cicero written in 45 BC. The words were shuffled and cut, so the text looks like real language but has no meaning, which keeps readers looking at the layout instead of the content.
› Why use placeholder text instead of real copy?
Designers and developers often need to see how a page, card or email looks before the final text exists. Neutral filler shows line length, wrapping and spacing without distracting reviewers with wording.
› How is the non-Latin filler text made?
Each language mode (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Arabic, Hindi and Thai) uses a short list of everyday words written for this tool, joined into sentences with that language's own punctuation, such as 。 and 、 in Japanese, ، and ؟ in Arabic, the danda । in Hindi, and a space only between sentences in Thai. It reads like the language at a glance but says nothing, just like Lorem Ipsum.
› Does the Arabic mode show right-to-left text correctly?
Yes. Arabic text is shown right to left in the result box, and with the p tag option every paragraph gets dir="rtl", so it also flows correctly when pasted into a left-to-right page. Chinese, Japanese and Thai have no spaces between words, which makes those modes handy for testing line breaking.
› Can I paste the result straight into HTML?
Yes. Turn on the p tag option and every paragraph is wrapped in its own p element, ready to drop into a template, a CMS or a code editor.
› Is the text different every time?
Yes. Each click on Generate shuffles new sentences, while the classic opening sentence stays the same when that option is on.
