What it means
The resource is temporarily at another URL. Clients should keep using the original URL for future requests.
Common causes
- Redirect to a login page
- A/B tests or geo redirects
- Temporary maintenance pages
How to fix it
As a client or visitor
Follow Location. Note that browsers change POST to GET when following 302; servers that need the method preserved should use 307.
As the site or API owner
Use 302 or 307 for temporary moves and 301 or 308 for permanent ones. Avoid chains of several redirects.
Example response
HTTP/1.1
HTTP/1.1 302 Found

FAQ
› 302 vs 307?
Both are temporary. 307 forbids changing the method, so a POST stays a POST; 302 is often turned into GET by clients.
› Is 302 bad for SEO?
Not if the move is really temporary. For permanent moves use 301 so search engines index the new URL.
