What it means
A WebDAV interim response telling the client the server is still working on a long request, so it should not time out yet. It is deprecated and rarely sent today.
Common causes
- A WebDAV server processing a slow COPY or MOVE of many files
- Legacy servers that keep connections alive during long operations
How to fix it
As a client or visitor
Keep waiting for the final status. Most HTTP clients ignore 102 automatically.
As the site or API owner
Prefer 202 Accepted with a status URL for long jobs; 102 was removed from the WebDAV spec and many clients do not handle it.
Example response
HTTP/1.1
HTTP/1.1 102 Processing Specification
FAQ
› Should I use 102 for long API requests?
No. Return 202 Accepted and let the client poll a job resource, or use streaming. 102 is a deprecated WebDAV mechanism.
› Is 102 Processing an error?
No. It is an informational interim response; the real result comes later.
