What it does
Base64 represents binary data using 64 printable characters. It is used in data URLs, email attachments, JSON Web Tokens and HTTP Basic auth headers. This tool encodes text to Base64 and decodes Base64 back to readable text.
How to use
- Choose Encode or Decode.
- Paste your text or Base64 string into the input, or click Sample.
- Turn on URL-safe if the result goes into a URL or file name.
- Copy the output, or press Use as input to reverse the conversion.
Example
Hello, World! encodes to SGVsbG8sIFdvcmxkIQ==.
FAQ
› Does it support Chinese, emoji and other non-English text?
Yes. Text is encoded as UTF-8 before Base64, so any character round-trips correctly.
› What is URL-safe Base64?
Base64URL replaces "+" with "-" and "/" with "_" and drops the "=" padding, so the result can go in URLs and file names. The decoder accepts both forms.
› Is Base64 encryption?
No. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption. Anyone can decode it, so never use it to hide passwords or secrets.
